Dawn and Dusk

Sculpture-Stone

Sculpture is about a three dimensional form that often tells a story, stimulates the visual senses, captures our emotions and connects us with the past and future.

My concepts for sculptures in bronze and stone have varied throughout the years and my preferred subject has centered on the human figure often using maternal themes and the nurturing relationship of mother and child.

The pair of figures exhibited here relate to man and woman. This set of triangular marble relief depicts “Dusk,” the female figure asleep with the moon. She is pensive and reflective. “Dawn” her male companion, awakens with the sun, and restlessly squirms within his confined space. Inspiration usually starts with a known source and once a seed is planted, imagination and creativity paves a new way of interpreting the concept. This theme developed after visiting Michelangelo’s Lorenzo tomb in the Medici Chapel, Florence.
